Vidya tried to a profession in film from a youthful age, and had her first acting part in the 1995 sitcom Hum Paanch. She sought after a graduate degree in human science from the University of Mumbai and at the same time made a few unsuccessful endeavors to begin a profession in film. She in this way highlighted in TV advertisements and music recordings. In 2003 she influenced her component to film make a big appearance as the hero of the free Bengali dramatization Bhalo Theko. In 2005 Vidya earned acclaim for her first Hindi film, the show Parineeta, and tailed it with a main part in the exceptionally effective 2006 comic drama film Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
